Summer Intern as a Clerk at Umeå District Court

Every day, hundreds of cases and matters are decided in courts across Sweden. Our organization consists of employees with various competencies, each of whom is significant in maintaining legal security and high quality at all levels.

Who are we

Umeå District Court has about 80 employees and serves as a general court as well as a land and environmental court. The court is also administratively coordinated with the Rent and Lease Board in Umeå. The court handles criminal cases, civil cases, court matters, and bankruptcies. The land and environmental court also reviews decisions under, among other things, the Environmental Code, the Property Formation Act, and the Planning and Building Act. The court also has an administrative department that supports the case departments in matters related to finance, HR, IT, archives, security, and service.

Are you a law student looking to gain practical experience in court work? Are you considering a future in the legal system? Then you are welcome to apply for a summer internship as a clerk during weeks 25 - 32 at Umeå District Court.

Umeå District Court is looking for a summer intern for the general department. You will be part of a team working closely with other professional groups within the department - judges, clerks, and court administrators.

The work involves

The tasks of a summer intern largely correspond to those performed by newly hired clerks at the court. You will see how practical court work is conducted and gain insight into the legal system.

As a summer intern, you will be responsible for taking minutes during hearings, writing draft judgments, conducting investigations, and to some extent preparing cases and matters. Other tasks that occur at the court may also be included in the work.

We are looking for you who

  • are approved up to and including semester 6 of the law program
  • have completed procedural law as well as criminal and civil law in your legal education
  • have not completed your education before the summer of 2025

You have good grades from completed parts of the law program, strong legal knowledge, and good communication skills. You convey information clearly and simply, both verbally and in writing. You are meticulous and can organize and plan your work. You have strong analytical skills and good collaboration abilities.
